Police Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai has passed new reform to Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons by putting National Police Speaker Charles Owino as a second in charge. Owino will be the current deputy director of KNFP as per the IG.
The KNFP is a commission that oversees and negotiates with weapons issues in numerous state organs.Since 2015, Owino has been the spokesman for the police. For a brief time in 2013, he held the job before. He was popular for becoming outspoken about police issues. He lately shielded the police department alleged of disproportionate use of force in the administration of implementing Covid-19 guidelines.
"Let us follow the rule, keep the distance from society. The reason we have a night-curfew is to make sure we deal properly with this problem, " this he said at a previous press conference. The news is that Owino announced interest in Siaya's government seat in 2022.
It would probably battle Siaya Senator James Orengo, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and siaysian Deputy Governor James Okumbe during the nominations process. He is looking to securing position on an ODM ticket. He pointed out that he will have a fair chance to take the job from his background in the police.
"I never wished here today to announce my political interest, but because my dad reminded us, who is me not to show you guidance. You know that next year people will announce their desires for different positions and as a public servant, I'm 50 years old and I should resign," he said.
